They claim the book is a roadmap to help make your marriage last in the modern world, thanks to the ten essential truths they’ve learned about creating successful relationships. Fortunately for Huffington Post readers, the authors decided to share seven tips from the book for free. The tips are based on the reality that it will take work after the wedding to make your marriage last, even if you put in a lot of time and energy into the relationship before the marriage.
Make Your Marriage Last: Turtles & Hailstorms
Some of the tips Hendrix and Hunt share with their readers will be familiar to couples who have read Susan Johnson’s book Hold Me Tight® or Stan Tatkin’s Wired for Love. For example Hendrix and Hunt suggest that partners deal with conflict in a “turtle” fashion or in a “hailstorm” fashion. Johnson uses the terms “withdrawer” and “pursuer”. Tatkin uses the terms “island” and “wave.”
