Everyone knows that romantic love in a long-term relationship gives way to boredom, routine, or possibly even infidelity. However, according to Bianca Acevedo and Arthur Aron, two psychologists at Stony Brook University, this doesn’t have to happen. After examining research done on long-term relationships, they concluded that an intense, engaging, and sexual romantic love can not only persist, it’s an important goal for couples to work toward. Many people, they argue, confuse romantic love with passionate love. Passionate love is romantic love with an obsessive aspect. Obsession fades, which is a good thing because obsession is associated with poor relationship satisfaction.
